Kent does a good turn: Screw removal
by Kent Roberts
When I was in the Boy Scouts, our slogan was, “Do a good turn daily.” I haven’t done that over the years, unless you include good turns I’ve done for myself.
But I was able to do a good turn for a lady on the street the other day. I was walking on Melrose Avenue (near Kent HQ), and the woman was hovering, looking unsure. I made eye contact with her and smiled. She responded by swiveling and starting to walk at my side. Talking very fast, she said that there was a screw or bolt up ahead in the road, and that she was worried that someone might trip over it and hurt themselves. She needed someone to help her move the object to the side of the road. I told her I could help her out. I went to the middle of the road and grabbed the screw. She told me to wash my hands.
Here is the screw:

Look both ways before crossing the street, especially if you plan to jaywalk.
